Gartner’s\u00a0updated forecast for IT spending in 2013<\/a> is revised upward. \u00a0Global information technology spending is expected to reach $3.7 trillion this year, a 4.2 percent increase over spending in 2012. \u00a0This is an upward revision of Gartner’s previous estimate of 3.8 percent growth, but it really is a result only of a weaker dollar relative to other currencies. \u00a0Mobility, cloud computing and ‘smart computing’ are three areas that are driving much of the growth for this year. \u00a0Gartner expects Big Data to be a major factor in 2014.<\/p>\n

Enterprise software and Devices are likely to see the largest growth in the coming year. \u00a0But Gartner said that long-term growth will be tempered by greater competition and lower prices for devices like tablet computers. \u00a0Factors driving Enterprise Software growth in 2013 include CRM, security and storage management software.<\/p>\n
