Spending for IT in 2013 is looking up. \u00a0Gartner is predicting<\/a> that 2013 will see a growth of 4.2 percent, higher than what they were predicting for the year in late 2012. \u00a0At that rate, global IT spending in 2013 will come in at $3.7 trillion. \u00a0If telecommunications is subtracted from that total, leaving spending categories like data centers, software, devices and IT services, the total spending in 2013 will just top $2 trillion.<\/p>\n

Richard Gordon<\/a>, managing vice president at Gartner,. said that “Uncertainties surrounding prospects for an upturn in global economic growth are the major retardants to IT growth. \u00a0This uncertainty has caused the pessimistic business and consumer sentiment throughout the world. However, much of this uncertainty is nearing resolution, and as it does, we look for accelerated spending growth in 2013 compared to 2012.”<\/p>\n

Rajesh Ganesan<\/a>, director of ManageEngine, told CBR magazine<\/a> that\u00a0“No doubt the industry will lick its lips at the prospect of 4.2% growth in business IT spend, particularly given the weak outlook for economies across the globe. Companies of course need to make sure that they invest for their future success but even after the straitened times of the past few years they still have a lot of unnecessary IT spend that they could strip out. In many cases, they’re paying over the odds to subsidise large marketing budgets, vast sales teams and rafts of acquisitions.”<\/p>\n

New technologies like the cloud and big data are behind the growth. \u00a0Ed Anderson<\/a>, analyst at Gartner, said that<\/a> “Over the last few years in particular, we\u2019ve seen a lot of experimentation in cloud infrastructure services but we are now reaching a tipping point in the market where the predominant cloud workloads are moving from development and testing scenarios to real production workloads.”<\/p>\n
