Increasingly businesses are migrating their applications and\u00a0pieces of their IT infrastructure to the cloud.<\/p>\n

Bryan Britz<\/a>, research director at Gartner, said that<\/a> “Public cloud adoption is accelerating and public cloud services do, and will, cannibalize IT services spending in the coming years, most notably in the data center. \u00a0At the same time, public cloud adoption offers service providers the opportunity to accelerate externalization of spending for the non-public cloud workloads and IT operations and service management responsibilities in tandem with clients pursuing a public cloud initiative. \u00a0Public cloud services are being adopted in markets that were previously not the target market for most IT services providers. Adoption in these emerging markets and small and midsize business\/smaller enterprise clients also creates consideration for increased use of established IT services to assist with the non-public cloud workloads.”<\/p>\n

Within the cloud market, which areas are most likely to see high rates of growth in the near term?<\/p>\n

Ruggero Contu<\/a>, research director at Gartner, said that<\/a> “The biggest opportunities [in the enterprise cloud] currently center on areas such as messaging and Web security as well as remote vulnerability assessment. \u00a0However, as maturity evolves a wide variety of security offerings will emerge, such as data loss prevention (DLP), encryption and authentication, to be increasingly available in the cloud. As new start-up players establish themselves with innovative offerings, established players will look to acquire them, to expand their portfolios with new capabilities, and to remain competitive.”<\/p>\n

By 2015, 10 percent of overall IT security enterprise product capabilities will be delivered in the cloud,\u00a0predicts Garner<\/a>.<\/p>\n
