target=\"_blank\">changing the Electric Power industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A recent survey of executives in the electric industry by the<a title=\"Electric Power Research Institute\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EPRI\" target=\"_blank\"> Electric Power Research Institute<\/a> (EPRI) \u00a0found interest in the following applications of Big Data:<\/p>\n<div Awareness<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a title=\"EPRI Data visualization\" href=\"http:\/\/www.smartgrid.epri.com\/doc\/2012-11-01%20-%20Smart%20Grid%20Information%20Sharing%20Call%20-%20Field%20Force%20Operational%20Data%20Visualization%20-Webcast.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Information Visualization<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Predictive and Forecasting Activities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>The vision of the industry is that with the help of Big Data analytics, the power system can evolve so that all aspects of the system can be better integrated and ultimately automated. \u00a0An article authored by EPRI analysts\u00a0<a title=\"Doug Dorr bio\" Rosso bio\" href=\"www.linkedin.com\/pub\/alberto-del-rosso-epri\/40\/b13\/417\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alberto Del Rosso<\/a> <a title=\"EPRI and Big Data vision for the future\" href=\"http:\/\/portfolio.epri.com\/TechInn.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">describes a power system<\/a> in twelve years time that will be &#8220;more like the plug and play concept of secure computer networks that can instantly recognize and securely configure all connected devices \u2013 while simultaneously enabling customers to optimize settings for their electronic equipment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Because of new technologies like Big Data Analytics, EPRI expects that the power grid\/smargrid of the future will be both more efficient and more reliable.<\/p>\n<div
