Content Management: ECM at the Crossroads"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"_mcePaste\">A <a title=\"AIIM at the Crossroads report\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aiim.org\/About\/News\/ECM-at-Crossroads\" target=\"_blank\">recent report by the AIIM<\/a> looks at the current state of the ECM industry.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">The AIIM report found that businesses are typically using ECM today for:<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\n<ul>\n<li>78 percent use it for standard document management or a file-share replacement<\/li>\n<li>66 percent use it for records management<\/li>\n<li>46 percent use it for collaboration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">The search and security benefits of ECM are motivators to stop using simple sharing of files on a common company drive. \u00a012 percent of companies have already turned off file sharing and another 34 percent of companies have plans to turn it off.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Despite a move in the industry away from traditional software licensing to cloud and on-premise subscription-based software, a majority of customers say that they continue to plan to increase the amount of money they&#8217;re spending on software licenses.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">The report shows that many companies want to enable enterprise social features across their organization and that they often find that an ECM framework works well as a base from which social features can be added.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">Also highlighted in the report is a problem that it is very hard to search across all enterprise data. \u00a0This is because content continues to be housed in unconnected multiple systems, like ERP, HR, Finance, and ECM. \u00a0In fact, more than half of enterprise data has no connection with the ECM system. \u00a0Most of the data outside of ECM is <em>unmanaged<\/em> by any sort of records management or retention policies.<\/div>\n<div>&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><a title=\"Kathleen Reidy bio\" href=\"www.linkedin.com\/pub\/kathleen-reidy\/1\/190\/100\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kathleen Reidy<\/a> is the Director of Market Strategy at Alfresco,<a title=\"AIIM on ECM in business\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.alfresco.com\/wp\/new-aiim-survey\/?utm_source=feedburner&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+alfresco+%28Social+Content%29&amp;utm_content=FeedBurner\" target=\"_blank\"> observed that <\/a>&#8220;the AIIM survey data backs up what Alfresco is experiencing \u2013 there is significant demand in the market for modern, open, mobile and cloud-ready ECM capabilities to ongoing and emerging content chaos and content process challenges.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
