Intelligence: 2012 BI Market Growth Numbers Disappoint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Business Intelligence (BI) is a technology that&#8217;s grabbed the interest businesses in a big way over the last few years. \u00a0There has been a lot of excitement and discussion about how analytics and real-time dashboards can help businesses make better decisions.<\/p>\n<p>But despite the hype and excitement around BI, Gartner notes that <a title=\"Gartner notes disappointment with BI numbers\" href=\"http:\/\/www.4-traders.com\/GARTNER-INC-12710\/news\/Gartner-Inc-Gartner-Says-Worldwide-Business-Intelligence-CPM-and-Analytic-Applications-Performanc-17007313\/\" target=\"_blank\">2012 was a disappointing year for the BI business<\/a>. \u00a0In 2011 the Business Intelligence market was growing at a rate of 17 percent, but in 2012 the growth dropped off to 6.8 percent, reaching a total of $13.1 billion. \u00a0Now 6.8 percent is health growth, but it is a significant drop from the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>Why the drop? \u00a0Gartner identified five factors that influenced growth in the BI market in 2012. \u00a0The tough economy and confusion about Big Data and BI contributed most to the sharp reduction in growth:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Challenging macronomics <strong> [negative effect]<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>General confusion over what the difference is between Big Data and BI <strong> [negative effect]<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>BI spending often moved out of IT<strong> [neutral effect]<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Data discovery has become a mainstream architecture <strong>[positive effect]<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Popularity of SaaS-based BI for performing granular analytics <strong>[positive effect]<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Dan Sommer, principal research analyst at Gartner said that &#8220;while this seems like a dramatic drop [from 17 to 7 percent growth], it was in line with our forecasts published during 2012.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
