It established five strategic Open Data principles that all G8 members would abide by. \u00a0Members of the G8 include UK, US, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, Russia and Canada.<\/p>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><a title=\"Open Data Charter Principles\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/open-data-charter\/g8-open-data-charter-and-technical-annex\" target=\"_blank\">The five principles of open data<\/a> described in the Charter made by the G8 participants:<\/div>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\">\n<ul>\n<li>Open Data by Default<\/li>\n<li>Quality and Quantity<\/li>\n<li>Usable by All<\/li>\n<li>Releasing Data for Improved Governance<\/li>\n<li>Releasing Data for Innovation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p>To see how the G8 countries currently rank in their openness of sharing government-collected data, the <a title=\"G8 Open Data Census\" href=\"http:\/\/census.okfn.org\/g8\/\" target=\"_blank\">Open Data Census<\/a>, Open Knowledge Foundation, ran a census that examined how well countries are making their data available. \u00a0Open Data sets that are available were categorized and ranked in ten areas, like transparency and accountability.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister David Cameron, said that &#8220;Some people may say, what on earth has open data got to do with business? &#8230; \u00a0What I hadn\u2019t fully understood, but what I now do understand, is the data government owns is one of the most precious things it has in terms of helping your economy to grow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a
