Gartner is predicting <\/a>that the Enterprise Content Management market will continue to grow at a healthy 12 percent per year through 2010. Recent numbers for 2007, like those from Open Text<\/a>, coming in at around 10 percent, are confirming this rate of growth throughout the industry.<\/p>\n

\"ECM<\/div>\n

In 2006, the ECM market was estimated to be $2.6 billion, and it is expected to grow to $4.2 billion by 2010. Gartner attributes the growth in ECM to be directly parallel to the ever growing amount of unstructured data that companies are trying to manage.<\/p>\n

\u0093For many organizations, unstructured content is fundamentally out of control,\u0094 said Tom Eid, research vice president for Gartner. \u0093Employees are creating all types of content for internal and external use with delivery through both formal and informal channels (such as wikis and blogs). While some of this business-specific content is now being managed through insurance claims processing, loan origination, case management and Web content management, the vast majority of this content is not being managed as an enterprise asset.\u0094<\/p>\n

The report sees two main categories of customers, those seeking entry-level, very basic content service (BCS) functionality, while the other category is much larger companies seeking to come to grips with problems like compliance and management of mission-critical documents.<\/p>\n
