A recent report by Forrester’s Stefan Ried<\/a> identifies myths that surround the 2013 business software business. \u00a0Chris Kanaracus<\/a> of IDG News Service summarized<\/a> some of the findings in that report:<\/p>\n

Myth – Enterprises Have Embraced Public Social Networks<\/strong>
\n“Not quite right. While employees value the open collaboration of social technology, they aren’t moving collaboration to public social networks like Facebook and Twitter.” \u00a0Half of businesses report that they “are concerned about corporate collaboration issues and are keen to keep Facebook and Twitter streams clearly separated from corporate applications.” \u00a0Only 14 percent of businesses want to use them.<\/p>\n

Myth – Businesses Have Stopped Custom Application Development<\/strong>
\n“Definitely wrong. \u00a0Enterprises spend about the same on custom-developed business applications as on packaged business software.” \u00a0While pre-packaged application software accounts for about 25.8 percent of software spending, \u00a0businesses are still spending 25.6 percent of their software budget on custom software development.<\/p>\n

Myth – On-premise Solutions Will Be Fully Replaced with SaaS<\/strong>
\n“Replacements drove only the first wave of SaaS adoption; the future will be hybrid.”\u00a0 One-third of companies surveyed are using a hybrid cloud solution.<\/p>\n

Myth – The TopPriority Software Application for Businesses is ERP<\/strong>
\n“BI leads the adoption priority list, both in terms of expanding or upgrading existing installations and new implementations.”<\/p>\n
