In 2012, the global market for Document Capture software grew by 8.2 percent, reaching $2.7 billion<\/a>. Within the document capture category, the on-demand transaction processing segment showed the fastest growth at 23 percent, totaling nearly $500 million.<\/p>\n

Harvey Spencer<\/a>, President of HSA<\/a>, said that<\/a> “capture has evolved from a simple departmental scanning solution to intelligent data gathering. Large end users are realizing that many of the business transactions that enter the company in various ways, such as regular mail, fax and even email containing images, can be processed from the images. Previously these images have required expensive manual processing or have been ignored except for archive purposes. Using a variety of pattern recognition technologies, capture is starting to be employed to cover a much wider range of inputs. Intelligent classification software and business rules can start to process incoming business documents in a similar way to that of a trained human clerk.”<\/p>\n

Spencer said that going forward from 2013 that “we expect Records Management to decline as the primary reason to capture documents, with a corresponding increase in Case Management, as the need to capture all attributes of a document moves to the front end to provide real time information and analytics. We also believe that there is still a lot of growth available for Invoice and Remittance processing.”<\/p>\n

50 percent of document capture activities are initiated by high speed scanners, 20 percent is from MFP<\/a>‘s (multi-function peripherals or networked office digital copiers), and the remainder is attributed to Fax Servers, email and Mobile.<\/p>\n
