Oracle’s buying spree continues.\u00a0 This week Oracle snapped up the seven-year-old governance and compliance company, LogicalApps<\/a>.\u00a0 Oracle has now purchased <\/a>more than 35 companies with nine this year since their hostile takeover of PeopleSoft a little less than three years ago, about one new acquisition a month.<\/p>\n

Oracle’s spree initially concentrated on acquisitions that bulked up the number of their customers and later helped them fill in its missing technology infrastructure gaps.\u00a0 LogicalApps is different in that it is a technology purchase that has horizontal appeal across many Oracle products.
\nLogicalApps is based in Irvine and backed by funders Sequoia Capital and Mission Ventures.\u00a0 LogicalApps software embeds into applications and turns on real-time detection and prevention checking for financial and operational risks.<\/p>\n

A major driver behind Oracle’s purchase is the huge global interest in regulatory compliance.\u00a0 That includes Sarbanes-Oxley, of course, but also things like HIPAA, Basel II, MiFID, and many others.\u00a0 And it is also another blow towards at SAP in allowing Oracle to build up their story around the highly competitive area of compliance.<\/p>\n

LogicalApps software integrates already well with Oracle’s business applications and has hundreds of deployments.\u00a0 But Oracle also plans to extend LogicalApps to work with JD Edwards, Hyperion, and even SAP.<\/p>\n

While SAP and others are devoting increasing energy into going after small and medium sized business, Oracle is concentrating more on selling ever greater amounts of software into very large companies where it already has a good presence.<\/p>\n

Right now it looks like Oracle has SAP a bit off balance.<\/p>\n
