The new generation is instead choosing areas like Web 2.0, biotech and &#8216;green&#8217; technology.  That&#8217;s the view of M. R. <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Rangaswami\" href=\"http:\/\/gigaom.com\/2007\/10\/12\/enterprise-softwares-youth-drain\/\">Rangaswami<\/a>, publisher or SandHill.com.<\/p>\n<p>Software industry pioneers are still leading the companies:  Bill Gates, Larry Ellison, Dave Duffield, Steve Jobs, Henning Kagerman Steve Ballmer.  These leaders of Enterprise Software companies are seasoned.  Rangaswami comments that the average age of attendees at an Enterprise 2007 conference he attended was around 50 years old.  And the results of a survey of conference members showed that a third of the attendees wouldn&#8217;t recommend kids in college to consider a career in software.<\/p>\n<p>Something isn&#8217;t right.  Enterprise Software is a $600 billion industry.  How can the industry do more to attract more in-coming talent?<\/p>\n<p>Rangaswagi suggests:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make Room at the Top<\/li>\n<li>Mentor Young Executives<\/li>\n<li>Re-Establish Entry Level Positions<\/li>\n<li>Step up Marketing to Universities<\/li>\n<li>Develop Cross-Industry Recruiting Tactics<\/li>\n<li>Set up Internal &#8220;Innovation-Driven&#8221; Startups<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An interesting ideas.  But Enterprise 2007 may be focusing on an older business model perspective.  Newer technologies like SaaS and SOA are likely to change dramatically the way we think about software in the enterprise.<!--45328594e82b66278d9f77bb6ba13748--><\/p>\n<div
