It&#8217;s currently received considerable buzz in the media and is supported by vendors like <a title=\"HP and OpenStack\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openstack.org\/foundation\/companies\/profile\/hp\" target=\"_blank\">HP<\/a>, <a title=\"Red hat and OpenStack\" href=\"http:\/\/www.infoworld.com\/t\/openstack\/red-hat-aims-enterprise-openstack-deployment-dominance-230339\" target=\"_blank\">Red Hat<\/a>, <a title=\"Cisco on OpenStack\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.cisco.com\/news\/cisco-and-its-partners-drive-openstack-innovation-and-adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cisco <\/a>and <a title=\"IBM and OpenStack\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openstack.org\/summit\/portland-2013\/session-videos\/presentation\/smartcloud-foundations-inside-ibm-s-openstack-based-products\" target=\"_blank\">IBM<\/a>.   More than 64 different companies have contributed to OpenStack.  The newest release of the product is code named <a title=\"Havana new OpenSource release of OpenStack\" href=\"http:\/\/www.openstack.org\/software\/havana\/\" target=\"_blank\">Havana<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Features of the OpenStack Havana release\" href=\"http:\/\/www.infoworld.com\/t\/openstack\/openstack-havana-rolls-out-networking-orchestration-and-metering-upgrades-228979\" target=\"_blank\">Features of the OpenStack Havana<\/a> release include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a title=\"Firewall as a service\" href=\"https:\/\/wiki.openstack.org\/wiki\/Neutron\/FWaaS\/HavanaPlan\" target=\"_blank\">Improved load-balancing <\/a>and firewall as a service<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Heat Orchestration OpenStack\" href=\"https:\/\/wiki.openstack.org\/wiki\/Heat\" target=\"_blank\">Heat Orchestration<\/a> feature allows a cloud administrator to specify the set of services that need to be deployed<\/li>\n<li><a title=\"Ceilometer\" href=\"https:\/\/wiki.openstack.org\/wiki\/Ceilometer\" target=\"_blank\">Ceilometer<\/a>, a metering and data-collection framework.  Includes functions for customer billing, sending alerts, and collecting data that can be fed into systems like HBase and MongoDB<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Jonathan Bryce bio\" href=\"www.linkedin.com\/in\/jbryce\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jonathan Bryce<\/a>, OpenStack Foundation executive director, <a title=\"OpenStack Foundation's Jonathan Bryce\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ciol.com\/ciol\/features\/200025\/openstack-driven-single-company\" target=\"_blank\">said that <\/a>&#8220;OpenStack is a powerful platform developed by a large number of open source developer community. With over 1,600 developers from 70+ organisation worldwide, we aim to build a software that will create a big impact in cloud computing arena&#8230;  OpenStack is not driven by a single company, rather it is a community driven by innovation. With deep engagement from the developer community and from our users, today we are able to see adoption of OpenStack from many organisations&#8230; We saw a tremendous growth in terms of contribution from individual developers. From 10,000 lines of code in 2011, today, we have 1.74 million lines of code contributed from the OpenStack community.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But, despite the growth that OpenStack has seen, there are many issues with the current state of the project.  For example, <a title=\"Randy Bias bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/randybias\" target=\"_blank\">Randy Bias<\/a> of CloudScaling <a title=\"CloudStack quote by Randy Bias\" href=\"http:\/\/www.theregister.co.uk\/2013\/11\/05\/openstack_state_of_the_nation\/\" target=\"_blank\">told the Register<\/a> that &#8220;downloading an OpenStack deployment is a complex undertaking with a lot of rough edges \u2013 there&#8217;s a lot of ways to hurt yourself.  OpenStack is a very flexible system [but it] presents problems in that there can be certain design decisions that make it hard to upgrade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div id=\"_mcePaste\"><\/div>\n<div
