The combination of Social, Mobile, Analytics, and the cloud are creating an intertwined set of new technologies that Gartner is calling the “Nexus of Forces<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Tom Eid<\/a>, Research Vice President at Gartner, said that<\/a>\u00a0“starting in 2014, enterprise software markets will undergo their greatest level of disruption, growth and new opportunities since the year 2000. \u00a0By 2017, Gartner estimates that new IT buying based on the Nexus of Forces will drive more than 26 percent of total enterprise software market revenue, up from 12 percent in 2012. This represents more than $104 billion to new worldwide enterprise software revenue from cloud, information, mobile and social initiatives in 2017… While there has been a great deal of excitement from the vendor community regarding cloud, information, mobile, social, and other forces and technologies, adoption in organizations and businesses has yet to catch up with the hype. \u00a0Adoption trends of new technologies frequently take many years before reaching maturity, stability and broad market usage. The nexus should be seen as a development and design philosophy rather than as a packaged product.”<\/p>\n

Peter Goldmacher<\/a>, analyst at Cowen and Company, also made predictions about 2014 Enterprise Software, as reported by ZDNet<\/a>. \u00a0Goldmacher wrote that “there are very few greenfield opportunities in Enterprise Software any more. While there are a number of vibrant, high-growth SaaS companies, the vast majority of them are selling replacement products. We believe there is an enormous secular growth opportunity in automating processes at the very low end of the market. The Cloud has ushered in a new era of software where, for less than $50 a month in most instances, the smallest of small businesses can get enterprise-class software to automate core functions like Finance and Sales & Marketing.”<\/p>\n
