Or where it&#039;s been?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When asked whether their organizations had an appreciation for the costs incurred by not properly securing their company content, 69 percent of those surveyed said &#8220;No&#8221;.  40 percent had no idea whether their content had been inappropriately accessed, and 41 percent did not know if the content had been inappropriately updated or deleted.<\/p>\n<p>When asked what the drivers are behind influencing companies to adopt data\/content security policies and programs, the answers included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>risk avoidance (49%)<\/li>\n<li>government regulatory compliance (34%)<\/li>\n<li>internal corporate policy around security (32%)<\/li>\n<li>e-Discovery (27%)<\/li>\n<li>knowledge management (25%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For many company executives, data security is not yet on their radar.  Carl Frappaolo, vice President of AIIM Market Intelligence, tells the story of one executive who noticed a line item on their expenses related to temporary staff hires.  After drilling down, the executive found that the costs were related to bringing in staff to assist with e-Discovery.  After hearing that, his reaction was to investigate how those costs could be lowered and then investigated software options that might help him achieve that.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard to justify costs related to prevention.  Exactly what the return on investment in is not clear.  For many, it&#8217;s hard to imagine how damaging a data security problem can be, and many suspect that the proababily that something would happen is small.
