“We must take proactive steps to safeguard the nation from the malicious cyber activity that is draining our intellectual property, harming commerce and threatening the integrity of our infrastructure,” said<\/a> Democratic Rep. Bennie Thompson<\/a> from Mississippi.<\/p>\n

Analysts are predicting that in 2014 the number of cyber attacks attempted will only grow in number. \u00a0Security provider McAfee\u00a0predicts that<\/a>\u00a0“the poor cyber security foundations of many companies will continue to create an environment of high motivation, high opportunity for the attacker in 2014. \u00a0Businesses need to understand that lax cyber security could have significant implications on their company data, operations and financial viability.”<\/p>\n

In an effort to protect themselves from cyber attacks, businesses are likely to increase their level of proactive network protection and increasingly adopt measures like cloud-based security-as-a-service. \u00a0The analyst firm\u00a0VisionGain estimates<\/a>\u00a0that the value of the global cybersecurity market in 2014 will reach nearly $77 billion.<\/p>\n

Tim Ryan<\/a>, Kroll Research managing director and Cyber Investigations practice leader, said that <\/a>“most organizations have invested in preventative security technologies, but remain unprepared to launch an effective response to a leak or intrusion. Without the right tools and policies in place beforehand, they find themselves suddenly under intense pressure to investigate, track, and analyze events. It takes more money and time to scramble at the last minute, although we\u2019ve seen a dramatic improvement in response technology over the last year.”<\/p>\n
