Global IT spending is expected to grow by 3.2 percent in 2014 to $3.8 trillion, as estimated by Gartner<\/a>. \u00a0Much of the oomph behind the growth will come from Enterprise software which is expected to faster than twice the average at 6.9 percent, bringing that market up to $320 billion. \u00a0And within Enterprise software, data management, databases and social software are the segments expected to be most active.<\/p>\n

Richard Gordon<\/a>, managing vice president at Gartner, said that “globally, businesses are shaking off their malaise and returning to spending on IT to support the growth of their business. \u00a0Consumers will be purchasing many new devices in 2014; however, there is a greater substitution toward lower cost and more basic devices than we have seen in prior years.”<\/p>\n

Many businesses also now feel that the time is right to upgrade their technology investments. \u00a0Roger Kay<\/a>, an analyst with Endpoint Technologies Associates, said that <\/a>“there has been a delay in the upgrade cycle” recently, but businesses see 2014 as a point as a chance to catch up. \u00a0But he warns that\u00a0“the cloud trend has people not buying certain kinds of hardware and software for their infrastructure.”<\/p>\n

John Lovelock<\/a>,\u00a0Gartner research Vice President, told PCWorld \u00a0that<\/a> “2014 is going to be a very different year than 2013… \u00a0But 2013 also had the specter of the future. We knew things were going to get better.”<\/p>\n
