96 percent of health care\u00a0clinicians, researchers and administrators said they’re already using big data and complex algorithmic models to help them make informed medical decisions, according to the results of a new survey<\/a>. \u00a0That’s a surprisingly large number! \u00a0And reports had been that the health care industry is lagging in the area of IT<\/a>. \u00a0It’s a bit suspicious.<\/p>\n

When questions in the survey dug a bit deeper, only a few said that their use of analytics is integrated into the tools that are provided to them on an institutional level, although it’s \u00a0difficult to see how they can then manage to carry out large scale analytics. \u00a0Also, only 42 percent said that they have a plan ready should they need to scale up to meet increasing volume demands of data.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Covich Bordenick<\/a>, CEO of eHI,\u00a0said that<\/a>\u00a0“organizations pull health data from a variety of sources to inform decisions. \u00a0As demands for information increase from patients and providers, analytic models become more complex, and a host of new challenges have evolved that organizations must navigate.”<\/p>\n

Phil Fasano<\/a>, the executive vice president and CIO for Kaiser Permanente, said that the potential of big data analytics <\/a>is that it will enable medical professionals “to support the safest, highest quality, most individualized care without constraint of borders and boundaries.”<\/p>\n

Russell P Branzell<\/a>,\u00a0CEO of Chime, said that<\/a>\u00a0“CIOs have increasingly significant workloads at a time when their staff is being reduced, their investments are being cut and expectations for the value of health IT solutions are increasing. \u00a0The promise of health IT can only be achieved if we’re focused on transformational efforts.”<\/p>\n
