Information security spending is expected to reach $71 billion in 2014, an increase of of nearly 8 percent, predicts Gartner<\/a>. Much of the drive in spending can be attributed to new security technologies for protecting mobile, the cloud, and social. \u00a0Continued annual growth of about 8 percent is also predicted for 2015.<\/p>\n

Among the individual categories of security technology, data loss protection is growing the most quickly, topping out at nearly 19 percent annual growth for 2014.<\/p>\n

Gartner also notes that increasingly security protection is shifting to the cloud. \u00a0By 2015 about 10 percent of IT security measures will be implemented as a cloud service. \u00a0The adoption of cloud hosted security measures is expected to be used especially by small and medium sized companies.<\/p>\n

Gartner said that “many organizations continue to lack the appropriate skills necessary to define, implement and operate appropriate levels of data protection and privacy-specific security controls. \u00a0This lack of skills leads organizations to contract security consulting firms that specialize in data protection and security risk management to address regulatory compliance demands and enhance their security postures. \u00a0This new dynamic has given rise to significant growth throughout the globe for managed security services.”<\/p>\n
