Today the Open Solutions Alliance<\/a> announced the results <\/a>of their survey of predictions from leading Open Source company CEOs. Not too unpredictably, all CEOs are very high on the prospects for Open Source in 2008.<\/p>\n

Some of their predictions include:<\/p>\n

Poor Economy in 2008 will Help Open Source<\/strong>\u00a0 CIOs will need to continue to reduce costs and drive value for their businesses on shrinking budgets, causing more organizations to look very strongly at Open Source.<\/p>\n

SaaS Combined with Open Source<\/strong> The combination of the two technologies will offer considerable value, convenience and flexibility to Small and Medium sized companies.<\/p>\n

Open Source is Catching on Globally<\/strong> Europe was an early adopter. Acceptance in the US is increasing. And in Asia, many expect to see a huge uptake of acceptance.<\/p>\n

Dollars from Open Source<\/strong> Open Source models will shake out this year. Companies need to make money to survive. Only models that allow for adequate monetization will survive.\u00a0 The dual Community\/Commercial license approach will become more widely accepted, following the lead of companies like Alfresco and MySQL.
\nConsolidation Mergers and Acquisitions are expected <\/strong> The economic challenges for Open Source are great, and only the strongest companies will survive the challenge.<\/p>\n
