In particular, consumers are hesitant to adopt wearable companion devices with functionality that is very similar to that of smartphones.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Juniper report identifies eight separate categories that make up the wearable technology market:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sports &amp; Fitness Wearables<\/li>\n<li>Multimedia &amp; Entertainment Wearables<\/li>\n<li>Lifestyle Wearables: Smart Clothing, Smart Jewellery<\/li>\n<li>Smart Watches<\/li>\n<li>Smart Glasses<\/li>\n<li>Enterprise Wearables<\/li>\n<li>Healthcare Wearables<\/li>\n<li>Military Wearables<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Smart watches are expected to replace fitness wearables as the top wearable category in sales by 2017. \u00a0<a title=\"Neil Garner bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.proxama.com\/about-us\/neil-garner\/\" target=\"_blank\">Neil Garner<\/a>, CEO of Proxama, <a title=\"Neil Garner on wearable technologies\" href=\"http:\/\/www.essentialretail.com\/news\/article\/5416a7b3557d6-smart-wearable-device-market-to-treble-by-2016\" target=\"_blank\">said that\u00a0<\/a>&#8220;the Apple Watch should provide an instantaneous experience that is essential inside the store whether for getting information on a product, checking in, paying, registering a loyalty card, or receiving offers. \u00a0It is much easier to react to a beacon pushed message and information looking at your watch than taking your phone out of pocket or purse, unlocking it and clicking on the alert in the notification area.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Companies like Salesforce.com are eyeing how wearable technology will affect businesses. \u00a0<a title=\"Adam Spearing bio\" href=\"uk.linkedin.com\/in\/aspearing\" target=\"_blank\">Adam Spearing<\/a>,\u00a0Salesforce.com\u2019s vice president of Platforms in EMEA, \u00a0<a title=\"Wearables and Salesforce.com\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cloudpro.co.uk\/cloud-essentials\/4459\/salesforce-bolsters-support-for-its-wearables-initiative\" target=\"_blank\">said that<\/a> &#8220;we see this stuff taking off; way, way faster than even smartphones. We think this is a phenomenal new way for enterprises and commercial organizations to connect with customers and employees in a totally new way&#8230; \u00a0I think we are at the beginning of an explosion, not just in devices but also the applications available for the devices.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
