Putting an app in the cloud increases the likelihood of having a data breach. \u00a0\u00a0Using cloud-based apps may increase the economic fallout from a data breach by more than a factor of three. \u00a0Those are two of the results from a survey of IT professionals made by the Ponemon Institute in a report that identifies what they call a security “cloud multiplier effect<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

Larry Ponemon<\/a>, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute, said that<\/a> \u201cI suspect that the low vote of confidence in cloud vendors we’re seeing is due to heightened scrutiny and a \u2018fear of the unknown.’ Overcoming this takes a better understanding of a vendor’s security precautions and how people are using the cloud in the first place. Businesses that demand more vendor transparency and seek efficient methods for evaluating apps and directing usage will find it easier to embrace the cloud and move past this period of uncertainty.\u201d<\/p>\n
