How are businesses using technology and what challenges do businesses have that prevent them from adopting new technology?<\/p>\n

That’s the question asked recently by Dell in their first\u00a0Global Technology Adoption Index (GTAI)<\/a>, a survey of how technology is being used at more than 2000 global enterprises.<\/p>\n

The report found that 97 percent of those organizations have already been using the cloud or have plans to start, about half have a mobility strategy, but only about one-third have attempted to apply big data.<\/p>\n

Karen Quintos<\/a>, chief marketing officer at Dell,\u00a0said that<\/a>\u00a0\u201cwe know that security, cloud, mobility and big data are the top IT priorities in all industries, but we need a deeper understanding of the practical realities of how companies are using these technologies today and what, if anything, is preventing them from unleashing their full potential.”<\/p>\n

Michael Dell<\/a>, \u00a0Founder and CEO of Dell,\u00a0said that<\/a> “security is the number one obstacle to cloud, mobility and big data adoption. Most organisations are not prepared to deal with the basic security risks, let alone secure cloud, global workforces, and data moving in and out of the firewall.”<\/p>\n

Laurie McCabe<\/a>, partner at SMB Group, said that<\/a> \u201cdespite mounting security risks and increased reliance on the Internet and technology to run their businesses, many small and midsize organisations are underprepared to deal with today\u2019s security threats, let alone those of the future. These companies know that disruptive technologies like cloud, mobility and big data can drive innovation and create competitive advantage. But it\u2019s often difficult for them to take a strategic approach and overcome security concerns in order to fully harness the potential.\u201d<\/p>\n
