{"id":502,"date":"2008-02-12T07:00:30","date_gmt":"2008-02-12T15:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=502"},"modified":"2008-02-12T07:00:30","modified_gmt":"2008-02-12T15:00:30","slug":"plm-gartner-magic-quadrant","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/plm-gartner-magic-quadrant\/","title":{"rendered":"PLM: Gartner Magic Quadrant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In January, Gartner <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"PLM Gartner Magic Quadrant Rankings 2007 4Q\" href=\"http:\/\/mediaproducts.gartner.com\/reprints\/oracle\/153351.html\">announced <\/a>the rankings of vendors in the Product Life Cycle Management (PLM) space.  <\/p>\n<p>The report identifies five areas which PLM software is important:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drive business strategy to create portfolios of products<\/li>\n<li>Planning for development to go from design to realization<\/li>\n<li>Manage time and finances to maximize business benefits of products over their lifecycle<\/li>\n<li>Capture, control and communicate product-related content<\/li>\n<li>Tools to create product-related content and to collaborate with partners, suppliers and customers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Missing from this newest ranking are four companies previously included, but that have been removed because of acquisitions in 2007.  Siemens acquired UGS.  Oracle acquired Agile.  PTC acquired CoCreate.  Dassault acquired MatrixOne.<\/p>\n<p>Because of those acquisitions, this year the rankings only covers six companies:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Oracle<\/li>\n<li>Dassault Systemes<\/li>\n<li>Siemens<\/li>\n<li>PTC<\/li>\n<li>SAP<\/li>\n<li>AutoDesk<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nGartner positions company rankings on their proprietary <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"Gartner Magic Quadrant\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Magic_Quadrant\">Magic Quadrant<\/a>.  The axes of their graph plot &#8220;Ability to Execute&#8221; versus &#8220;Completeness of Vision&#8221;.  Of the six remaining PLM companies being tracked, all of them are clustered fairly closely in the upper right hand quadrant.  The close clustering of the results makes it difficult to compare the vendors.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008 Gartner will need to add next-tier vendors to the list or else change their ranking criteria to help
