The Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing\u00a0(EFSS) segment of the data management<\/a>\u00a0industry has grown 400%+ since 2010.<\/p>\n

Gartner defines<\/a> Enterprise File Synchronization and Sharing (EFSS) as “a range of on-premises or cloud-based capabilities that enable individuals to synchronize and share documents, photos, videos and files across multiple devices, such as smartphones, tablets and PCs. File sharing can be within the organization, as well as externally (e.g., with partners and customers) or on a mobile device as data sharing among apps. Security and collaboration support are critical capabilities of EFSS to address enterprise priorities…”<\/p>\n

The last part of Gartner’s definition about EFSS apps being able to provide adequate security has been a feature that is often lacking in third-party EFSS cloud products and has become an issue for many enterprises.<\/p>\n

EFSS apps are easy to use and many employees don’t give a thought to the fact that they may be compromising privileged company information when they upload files to EFSS public servers.<\/p>\n
