{"id":5095,"date":"2015-01-12T07:00:07","date_gmt":"2015-01-12T15:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/?p=5095"},"modified":"2014-12-04T09:33:36","modified_gmt":"2014-12-04T17:33:36","slug":"mobile-organizations-lax-in-implementing-mobile-security-policies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/mobile-organizations-lax-in-implementing-mobile-security-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Mobile: Organizations Lax in Implementing Mobile Security Policies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>98 percent of IT professionals say that they&#8217;re concerned about the impact that mobile devices have on security. \u00a0But despite the concern, less than half have implemented any sort of mobile device management or antivirus software on mobile devices. \u00a0Those are findings of a<a title=\"Spiceworks report\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spiceworks.com\/press\/releases\/2014-10-30\/\" target=\"_blank\"> report by Spiceworks<\/a> sponsored by Samsung.<\/p>\n<p>Upwards of 90 percent of organizations are allowing users to use their own device to access corporate data (BYOD) or for users to use corporately owned devices for personal purposes (COPE &#8211; corporately owned, personally enabled).<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Peter Tsai bio\" href=\"http:\/\/about.me\/petertsai\" target=\"_blank\">Peter Tsai<\/a>, IT content manager for Spiceworks,<a title=\"Peter Tsai on Mobile Security\" href=\"http:\/\/www.eweek.com\/small-business\/mobile-security-concerns-largely-ignored-despite-threat.html\" target=\"_blank\"> told eWEEK that\u00a0<\/a>&#8220;your network&#8217;s security is really only as strong as your weakest link, and mobile is just another potential weak spot that companies and IT pros need to watch and plan for. \u00a0We found that corporate data is on a huge number of mobile devices, especially in the form of email, calendar invites and contacts, which could all contain sensitive information.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Jason Cook bio\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/profile\/view?id=11922477&amp;authType=OPENLINK&amp;authToken=VslE&amp;locale=en_US&amp;srchid=16710601417712682623&amp;srchindex=2&amp;srchtotal=740&amp;trk=vsrp_people_res_name&amp;trkInfo=VSRPsearchId%3A16710601417712682623%2CVSRPtargetId%3A11922477%2CVSRPcmpt%3Aprimary\" target=\"_blank\">Jason Cook<\/a>, vice president of security at BT in the Americas, <a title=\"mobile security \" href=\"http:\/\/www.eweek.com\/security\/mobile-security-breaches-hit-68-percent-of-firms-in-the-last-year.html\" target=\"_blank\">told eWeek<\/a> that\u00a0&#8220;shadow IT is one of the issues that businesses are dealing with when it comes to mobile security. We believe companies should be proactive to overcome this issue. \u00a0Another area that can be challenging for businesses is the paradigm shift from asset-centric policies and controls to a user-centric security model. Access to applications and data follow the user even though the user may be connecting from multiple devices, locations and networks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Mark Hughes bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.globalservices.bt.com\/uk\/en\/whybt\/mark_hughes\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Hughes<\/a>, BT Security president,\u00a0<a title=\"Mark Hughes on Mobile Security\" href=\"http:\/\/www.btplc.com\/news\/articles\/showarticle.cfm?articleid=%7Bf5e90f45-966a-4872-8cf6-c2c32f608541%7D\" target=\"_blank\">said that<\/a>\u00a0\u201cif CEOs are passionate about making security practices work, then they will inevitably become an intrinsic part of people\u2019s lives. \u00a0Problems usually arise when people don\u2019t understand the risks and the impact that neglecting security could cause for the business, as well as for them personally. A security breach could cause a share price drop and reputational brand damage. This means that security is everyone\u2019s job.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
