{"id":518,"date":"2008-04-07T07:00:09","date_gmt":"2008-04-07T15:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=518"},"modified":"2008-04-07T07:00:09","modified_gmt":"2008-04-07T15:00:09","slug":"soa-ibm-sees-need-for-t-shaped-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/soa-ibm-sees-need-for-t-shaped-skills\/","title":{"rendered":"SOA: IBM Sees Need for T-Shaped Skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IBM continues to warn of a Skills Shortage in SOA.  <a title=\"IBM survey finds SOA Skills Shortage\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=446\">Last fall <\/a>an IBM-sponsored ZapThink survey found that more than half the companies surveyed had less than 25 percent of the skills needed to build out SOA-based enterprise solutions.<\/p>\n<p>In a newer <a title=\"IBM skills shortage survey\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.idevnews.com\/IntegrationNews.asp?ID=303\">IBM-sponsored survey<\/a>, similar results are found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>56% respondents say a lack of SOA skills is \u201cthe #1 Inhibitor\u201d to launching and delivering SOA projects with strong business impact<\/li>\n<li>80% of respondents will invest to increase SOA skills in their company this year<\/li>\n<li>More than 60% of corporate executives invested in SOA-targeted retraining for both IT and Business staffs in the past year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of IBM&#8217;s recommendations for filling the gap is to create staff members that are trained as &#8216;T-Professionals&#8217;.  T-Professionals are bridge players that coordinate between IT and Business.  Professionals with &#8216;T-Shaped&#8217; skills are trained to see the big-picture and can help companies attack their problems with an end-to-end process perspective.<\/p>\n<p>The T-Professional helps companies in these areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Foundational &#8211; Helps companies create the basis for business agility<\/li>\n<li>End-To-End &#8211; Know how to coordinate across multiple business units<\/li>\n<li>Transformation &#8211; Can capture innovation and creativity to bring about change<\/li>\n<li>Dynamic Adoption &#8211; Respond to Changing Business Conditions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
