Cybersecurity tops 2015 CIO priorities. [Image by University of Maryland, Merrill College of Journalism]<\/p><\/div>Cybersecurity<\/strong>\u00a0it 2015’s top priority for most CIOs. \u00a0That’s according to a recent survey by the brokerage company\u00a0Piper Jaffray<\/a>. “CIOs clearly have heightened concerns from the many security breaches that occurred in 2014, resulting in an inflection in overall security spending.”<\/p>\n

While 65 percent of businesses expect to grow their overall IT spending by at least 2 percent this year, 75 percent say that they’ll be spending more on security. \u00a037 percent are looking outside their organizations to third-parties to manage their security needs.<\/p>\n

Andrew Nowinski<\/a>, vice president and senior research analyst at Piper Jaffray, told CRN that<\/a>\u00a0“I think the high-profile breaches alone definitely made CIOs more cognizant of the holes they [need to] patch in their environment,” Nowinski told CRN. “The breaches have highlighted the need for an increase in spending, and some of the repercussions that a lot of these breach entities suffered, including the loss of business, has made it clear how damaging a breach can be.”<\/p>\n

Enterprise software<\/strong> is another category of spending that’s expected to see strong growth in 2015. \u00a0Piper Jaffray is estimating that budgets for cloud-based application will grow by 6 percent. \u00a0On-premise spending will grow by 2 percent.<\/p>\n

Storage<\/strong> remains a high priority for CIOs, but it’s position as a top priority is down to 51 percent this year, compared to 54 percent who listed storage as a high priority last year.<\/p>\n
