The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) BIM CFR<\/a> initiative, which includes software provided by Formtek<\/a>, was recently selected as a Top 30 finalist for the 2015 Igniting Innovation Awards<\/a>. The Awards are presented by the American Council for Technology – Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC), the premier public-private partnership in the government IT community.<\/p>\n

\"Igniting<\/a>The 30 finalists were chosen from a large pool of innovative industry solutions developed to address the government\u2019s biggest IT challenges. From these, one overall Igniting Innovation winner will be chosen on February 5, 2015, at the Igniting Innovation Showcase and Award event at Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

As the landlord for the civilian federal government and one of the largest building owners in the nation, GSA Public Buildings Service (PBS) acquires space on behalf of the federal government through new construction and leasing, and acts as a steward for federal properties across the country. In 2003, the GSA, through its PBS program, established the National 3D-4D Building Information Modeling (BIM) Program. A major component to GSA using BIM effectively for facility management is the establishment in 2014 of a Central Facilities Repository, or CFR<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The goal of the CFR is to centralize all current building information, including BIM information, so that building data can interoperate with other business applications and be leveraged across the enterprise. Software provided to GSA PBS by Formtek supports the CFR. The software includes Alfresco One for the CFR User Interface (UI), and the Formtek Engineering Data Management (EDM) Solution for Alfresco \u2013 comprised of the EDM Module and EDM Connector for AutoCAD.<\/p>\n
