When asked to grade themselves on how well they’ve secured their IT infrastructure, nearly three-quarters of federal agencies gave themselves either an ‘A’ or ‘B’<\/a>. \u00a0Despite that, the agencies also admit that there are areas of security where they’re lacking is with endpoint protection<\/a>, mobile device management <\/a>and with cloud security. \u00a0Two-thirds of the agencies have concerns about their cybersecurity and the security of data in their data centers.<\/p>\n

Steve Hoffman<\/a>, vice president, regional sales, Federal, Palo Alto Networks, said that “many agencies have focused security efforts at the perimeter. \u00a0But, as we consider increasingly sophisticated cyber security attacks, all government agencies need a platform approach to protect the heart of their network \u2013 the data center \u2013 while safely enabling business applications. They need to be able to correlate known and new threats and take preventative action, not just detect and remediate.”<\/p>\n

Rick Howard<\/a>, chief security officer at\u00a0Palo Alto Networks,\u00a0told TechTarget CloudSecurity<\/a>\u00a0that “I think the federal government has generally been about 10 years behind the private sector in terms of adopting new technology. \u00a0Some agencies don’t allow mobile devices at all, and some are just beginning to dip their toes in mobile and BYOD.”<\/p>\n
