Facebook is on the hotseat with countries in the EU over how they handle data privacy. \u00a0The latest set of accusations were published in a report of an\u00a0investigation that was requested by the Belgian Privacy Commission<\/a>. \u00a0The report<\/a> finds that Facebook is acting in violation of European law. [While this report focuses on Facebook, the EU is targeting other American tech business giants like Google <\/a>and Apple too.]<\/p>\n

In an article by\u00a0Tom Fairless<\/a>\u00a0of the Wall Street Journal,\u00a0G\u00fcnther Oettinger<\/a>,\u00a0Europe\u2019s digital czar,\u00a0said that<\/a>\u00a0“the Americans are in the lead, they\u2019ve got the data, the business models and so the power. \u00a0Google and Facebook will go to the member states where data protection is least developed, come along with their electronic vacuum cleaner, take it to California and sell it for money. \u00a0That is why \u201cwe need one European data-protection law… \u00a0If you use an iPhone, they know all about your creditworthiness, your shopping habits. Take car insurance. They know the last time you were involved in an accident.”<\/p>\n
