Despite the fact that 75 percent of organizations that are currently using Microsoft SharePoint say that they have a strong commitment to get value from the platform, only 11 percent of businesses that use it say that their implementation has been a success. \u00a0In fact, nearly two-thirds of SharePoint installations are considered to be stalled in both adoption and progress. \u00a046 percent of SharePoint systems have never been integrated with other systems or repositories. And 48 percent of businesses have made no attempt to align Information Governance policies with their SharePoint deployment. \u00a0These are the results of an AIIM Industry Watch Report<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Despite having been available for 14 years, SharePoint has still not weaned many organizations away from their use of file shares for transferring documents.<\/p>\n

Doug Miles<\/a>, AIIM director of market intelligence, said that<\/a>\u00a0“adoption continues to be a major issue with a number of enterprise tools, including SharePoint. \u00a0Enterprises have it, but workers are simply not engaging with SharePoint in a committed way. It remains an investment priority however, and the C-suite must get behind it more fully than they are currently if they are to realize a return on that investment.”<\/p>\n

While SharePoint was singled out in the AIIM study, to be fair, many of the same problems around adoption are shared by other enterprise software platforms. \u00a0The report finds that the root cause for many enterprise software failures is lack of support from senior management. \u00a0But beyond support from senior management, or maybe because of it, AIIM’s report finds that many projects also suffer from lack of training, planning and investment.<\/p>\n
