{"id":5362,"date":"2015-04-28T07:00:06","date_gmt":"2015-04-28T15:00:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/?p=5362"},"modified":"2015-03-24T07:24:03","modified_gmt":"2015-03-24T15:24:03","slug":"construction-industry-after-lagging-construction-businesses-see-benefits-of-technology","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/construction-industry-after-lagging-construction-businesses-see-benefits-of-technology\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction Industry: After Lagging, Construction Businesses See Benefits of Technology"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The construction industry has come in last place when compared to other industries in spending on technology, based on the last four years (<a title=\"Construction spending on technology 2011\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dotain.com\/Gartner.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2011<\/a>,\u00a0<a title=\"Gartner spending on technology by construction\" href=\"http:\/\/enr.construction.com\/technology\/construction_technology\/2012\/1203-gartner-stats-aec-dead-last-in-it-spend.asp\" target=\"_blank\">2012<\/a>, <a title=\"Gartner IT Key Metrics 2013\" href=\"http:\/\/itsurvey.gartner.com\/itsurveydocs\/itkmd13enterprisesummaryreport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2013<\/a>, <a title=\"IT Key Metrics 2014\" href=\"http:\/\/na3.www.gartner.com\/imagesrv\/research\/images\/channels\/article_itmetrics_0314_b2.png;pv805a4493db86bc39\" target=\"_blank\">2014<\/a>) of research by Gartner. \u00a0But this may be changing.<\/p>\n<p>A recent<a title=\"Report by JBKnowledge on Construction Industry use of Technology\" href=\"http:\/\/jbknowledge.com\/2014-construction-technology-report-survey\" target=\"_blank\"> report by JBKnowledge<\/a> similarly found that the construction industry allocates less money on technology than any other industry. \u00a0The report found that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Builders increasingly use the cloud, although their use of security measures may be lacking<\/li>\n<li>Only 4.1 percent of construction professionals use the cloud to manage the bid and estimation phases of the project<\/li>\n<li>Nearly 80 percent of construction professionals now say that mobile is important or very important for their organizations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>But years after lagging other industries in the adoption of technology, many expect the use of technology to accelerate and bring with it greater operational efficiencies.<\/p>\n<p>The JBKnowledge report notes that &#8220;in an increasingly digital world, technology has\u00a0become an inseparable part of construction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Rex Bell bio\" href=\"http:\/\/www.miller-davis.com\/page.php?page_id=105\" target=\"_blank\">Rex Bell<\/a>, president of Kalamazoo-based Miller-Davis Co.,<a title=\"Rex Bell quote on use of technology in construction\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crainsdetroit.com\/article\/20130717\/NEWS\/307179999\/construction-industry-builds-on-creativity-technology-in-battling\" target=\"_blank\"> said that<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;you&#8217;d be stupid not to use technologies. \u00a0They&#8217;re a big advantage. It&#8217;s now a standard for us. We want to use digital data to do conflict resolution, and now we&#8217;re beginning to move into working through the long-term benefits of 3-D modeling in facilities management.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
