Use of 3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is ramping up quickly based on a report by Sculpteo<\/a>, a 3D printing company. \u00a068 percent of current users of 3D printing are planning to increase their spending in 2015, and 44 percent say that they’ll be spending more.<\/p>\n

The report notes that the results of the report “suggest that not only is investment in\u00a0additive manufacturing growing across all sectors, but\u00a0it also seems to be a source of growth unto itself, as\u00a0the growth in investment has been consistent from\u00a0one year to the next.”<\/p>\n

The Sculpteo report identified twelve factors that explain the strong interest and growth being seen in the 3D printing market. \u00a0These include things like\u00a0new markets, materials, price, innovation, and efficiency. \u00a0And among those factors, the themes that were identified to occur frequently in survey responses were\u00a03D metal printing, 3D capture tools (scanners, smartphones), and higher-precision printers.<\/p>\n

In looking to the future, those surveyed felt that the two primary features that will make the technology attractive over the next five years are the ability to rapidly create new products and the ability to make limited run and highly custom products.<\/p>\n
