PLM market leaders Siemens and PTC <\/a>are both reporting sales successes in the small and medium sized business. PTC saw strong sales of its WindChill product in fourth quarter 2007, and they report that their growth isn’t coming from the typical large multi-national companies, it’s coming from much smaller ones.<\/p>\n

\u201cSmall and medium businesses today are faced with increasing product complexity, competition from larger counterparts and the need to shorten time to market, \u201d said Jay Muelhoefer, vice president, channel solutions, PTC.<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Siemens is reporting similar success, and most of their new sales are coming from SMBs too.<\/p>\n

“In the past, we used to think of PLM as a tool for the engineering departments of the ‘big boys,'” said Joe Barkai<\/a>, practice director, Product Lifecycle Strategies Manufacturing Insights, an IDC Company. “But more and more smaller companies are using PLM not only because they are required to do so by their customers, but also because PLM tools are becoming more accessible, and easier to implement and use; all at a lower total cost of ownership. The growth of PLM investment in the SMB market has accelerated over the last several years and is now outpacing the overall PLM market.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
