expected to reach $2.7 billion this year, an increase of 4.4 percent over last year, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/newsroom\/id\/3064717\" target=\"_blank\">according to Gartner.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Four trends that Gartner sees in the BPM market are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Business Transformation<\/strong>. \u00a0BPM can be used to improve existing processes but it can also be applied strategically at a higher big-picture level, allowing business to reinvent themselves. \u00a0It sounds like a shift back to the idea of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Business_process_reengineering\" target=\"_blank\">re-engineering<\/a> that was popular in the mid-90&#8217;s.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Support for Internet of Things<\/strong>. \u00a0Processes will increasingly include non-human elements in the workflow. \u00a0These may include things like sensors, robots and smart machines, and even things like smart meters, security cameras, mobile and\u00a0monitoring devices.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manage Long-lived Processes<\/strong>. \u00a0BPM can manage both short-lived transactional processes and long-lived business processes. \u00a0Gartner sees BPM increasingly focusing on managing longer-term processes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Integration with Mobile, Social, Cloud and Analytics<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/analyst\/47387\/Rob-Dunie\" target=\"_blank\">Rob Dunie<\/a>, research director, Gartner, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gartner.com\/newsroom\/id\/3064717\" target=\"_blank\">said tha<\/a>t BPM &#8220;supports business responsiveness, often at the \u2018moment of truth\u2019 in a customer interaction.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
