First came a wave of virtualization technology. \u00a0Now we have containers. \u00a0While not direct competitors, the two technologies have overlap. \u00a0The difference between the two is primarily a matter of scope<\/a>. \u00a0The scope of containers is restricted to a single application while the scope of virtualization is an encapsulation of an\u00a0entire operating system and all the applications in it.<\/p>\n

A recent survey from ClusterHQ\/DevOps.com<\/a> tried to assess to what extent organizations are using containers. \u00a0Hype around containers has certainly piqued interest in the technology. \u00a0As many as 94 percent of organizations are investigating or using containers. \u00a038 percent say that they have moved forward with the technology and deployed it on their production sites. \u00a0That’s expected to increase to 69 percent over the next 12 months. \u00a0Among the container technologies being investigated and used, 92 percent say they are looking at\u00a0Docker<\/a>.<\/p>\n
