There are more than 7.3 billion mobile devices in a world that only has\u00a07 billion people<\/a>, says\u00a0Forrester Research<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While the first wave of mobile has been focused primarily on consumers, mobile is beginning to make a strong showing in the enterprise. \u00a0IDC projects<\/a> that there are currently 96 million workers in the US who have used mobile devices to access data related to their jobs. \u00a0[Note that total population of the US is now about 320 million<\/a>]. The number of mobile workers is expected to grow to more than 100 million people by 2020, or about two thirds\u00a0of the total US workforce<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The global Enterprise Mobility (EM) market is expected to grow annually by 15 percent every year, eventually reaching $140 billion by 2020. \u00a0By 2020 roughly 10-12 percent of the enterprise IT budgets will be spent on mobility, compared to less than 5 percent today. \u00a0That’s based on a report by Nasscom made in association with Deloitte<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A big reason why mobile is taking off in the enterprise is because people are using the technology as consumers. \u00a0IDC says that the relatively low cost of smartphones and tablets combined with a “Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)” philosophy at businesses are\u00a0major drivers of the growth of enterprise mobility.<\/p>\n

Advances in mobile technology are forcing businesses to rethink the technologies and strategies used by their organizations. \u00a0For example, there has been increasing innovation occurring in the areas of\u00a0biometric readers, wearables, voice control, near-field communications (NFC) and augmented. \u00a0As a result, new mobile technologies are expected to improve and change business\u00a0workflows, communication and even business cultures.<\/p>\n
