Manufacturing businesses are increasingly\u00a0equipping their plants with sensors to\u00a0monitor their processes and activities. \u00a0Manufacturers\u00a0are already\u00a0collecting vast amounts of data. \u00a0A recent survey by Frost and Sullivan<\/a> found that data collection for manufacturing, or the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) now accounts for 14 percent of all data stored globally.<\/p>\n

A survey by Zebra Technologies<\/a> found that 97 percent of manufacturers consider IoT to be one of the most disruptive technologies impacting their industry and 83 percent of manufacturers expect to have an IoT implementation in place within the next year<\/p>\n

Greg Gorbach<\/a>, vice president for ARC Advisory Group’s IIoT, said that<\/a> “industrial companies are beginning to move beyond the computer-enhanced business models of the late 20th century. Many are embracing new models that take advantage of intelligent connected products coupled with potent software and analytics. With IIoT, we expect to see innovations in smarter products, new service and operating models, new production techniques, and new approaches to design and sourcing…\u00a0For companies with the right mindset, Internet of Things (IoT) platforms will open up big opportunities for improved asset performance, new service offerings, improved operational efficiency, and completely new ways of offering value to customers.”<\/p>\n
