The volume of cloud traffic is exploding. \u00a0Cisco estimates<\/a> that in 2015 total global cloud traffic will be on the order of 2.1 Zettabytes (ZB), and they predict that cloud traffic will grow to 8.6 zettabytes by 2019. \u00a0Cloud traffic is a subset of all date center traffic; total data center traffic also includes data traffic moving between data centers.<\/p>\n

Another dramatic shift predicted by Cisco is the migration of data being that is being stored on local PC devices to other devices, like smartphones, tablets and M2M devices. \u00a0Currently, about 73 percent of data is stored on PCs, but by 2019 a majority of data will instead be stored on non-PC devices.<\/p>\n
