New cloud tools for analyzing and visualizing Big Data are being released almost weekly by\u00a0the major cloud vendors. \u00a0For example, Google recently announced the launch of Cloud Datalab<\/a>. \u00a0AWS has Amazon QuickSight<\/a>, and SAP<\/a>, IBM<\/a>, Microsoft <\/a>and Salesforce <\/a>have similar tools for analysis and visualization.<\/p>\n

Google’s Datalab is more developer-focused and is based off of Jupyter<\/a> notebooks which is a format for packaging code and visualizations into a single unit that make it easy to share with others.<\/p>\n

Amazon’s QuickSight<\/a> targets end users and provides an easy-to-use low-cost tool for building visualization and performing ad-hoc analysis.<\/p>\n

Ian Kailn<\/a>, Chief Data Officer for the Commerce Department, told online FedScope<\/a>\u00a0that “one of the benefits of these new cloud tools is to not only perform big data analysis, but to also make such tools more accessible to more users. \u00a0Commerce has massive data systems \u2013 including those from the National Weather Service, the Patent and Trademark Office, and the Census Bureau \u2013 that can benefit from private-sector big data technologies. Because the data ecosystem is constantly evolving, emerging technologies, like these new cloud tools, can be applied to help expand the value and reach of official government data sets in order to build new products and services.\u201d<\/p>\n
