It used to be that enterprises were the main users of enterprise software — that seems logical enough. \u00a0But no longer. \u00a0A recent survey of businesses by Tech Pro Research <\/a>found that businesses too small to be classified as enterprises are adopting “enterprise” software. \u00a0Enterprise software could\u00a0soon just become “business software”.<\/p>\n

The report found that 98 percent businesses with more 1000 employees use\u00a0enterprise software. \u00a0Among all companies surveyed, more than two-thirds said that they are using at least one enterprise software application. \u00a0Enterprise apps include software for\u00a0asset management, business intelligence, CRM, document management, data processing, databases, financial applications, identity management, retail software, process management and resource planning.<\/p>\n

A major factor driving the widespread use of enterprise apps has been the rise of the cloud. \u00a0 Cloud-based apps often come with user-based pricing, making adoption affordable to smaller companies. \u00a0In that way, the cloud has become an equalizer between what software enterprise-size and small-size businesses can afford.<\/p>\n

Frank Gens<\/a>\u00a0is senior vice\u00a0president and chief\u00a0analyst at IDC, said that<\/a> “what\u2019s happening now with cloud technologies is\u00a0that we\u2019re seeing a democratization of the ability to\u00a0create competitive advantage with IT. We\u2019re seeing\u00a0companies of all sizes\u2014not just the big guys\u2014being\u00a0able to digitize every bit of value they create and then\u00a0bring that value to the marketplace.”<\/p>\n

Chris Neumann<\/a>, CEO of \u00a0data analysis vendor DataHero, said to<\/a>\u00a0“expect vendors to continue driving this trend, as it allows them to target functional areas within companies, regardless of their size.”<\/p>\n
