Computing: Trends and Predictions for 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent study\u00a0from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.soliantconsulting.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/the-economy-of-the-cloud\" target=\"_blank\">Soliant Consulting reported\u00a0<\/a>some interesting milestones for cloud computing in 2015:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>63 percent of businesses have a private cloud. \u00a082 percent of businesses use a hybrid cloud, and 88 percent of businesses are using the public cloud.<\/li>\n<li>64 percent of businesses say that in 2015 cloud computing helped them to reduce waste and energy consumption.<\/li>\n<li>The federal government estimates that it&#8217;s saved $5.5 billion because of its move to the cloud<\/li>\n<li>Amazon&#8217;s share of the cloud market is 30 percent compared to Microsoft Azure&#8217;s 10 percent share.<\/li>\n<li>Small businesses spent $15.5 billion on cloud services in 2015. \u00a0Total cloud revenues reached $64 billion.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where&#8217;s the cloud computing market going? \u00a0Here&#8217;s some predictions for what we might expect in 2016:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expect the migration to SaaS applications to grow only stronger. \u00a0SaaS generally comes with cost savings and simplicity. \u00a0It also helps businesses improve their overall agility.<\/li>\n<li>Data is moving to the cloud. \u00a0By the end of the year Soliant Consulting estimates that 36 percent of all data will have migrated to the cloud.<\/li>\n<li>Containers will\u00a0increasingly be used\u00a0to build cloud-based distributed applications. \u00a0Container technology like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.docker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Docker <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/coreos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CoreOS <\/a>should grow significantly this year.<\/li>\n<li>Data storage costs will continue to plummet. \u00a0Data storage is being used as a loss leader by cloud vendors to get data into the cloud. \u00a0vendors hope to see revenues from things like security management, analytics and applications.<\/li>\n<li>Security concerns won&#8217;t go away this year. \u00a0Expect there to be continued attacks on the cloud in 2016. \u00a0Customers will continue to demand tougher cloud controls and security.<\/li>\n<li>A renaissance for IT groups could happen this year. \u00a0While the cloud is impacting the size and scope of many IT groups, businesses also recognize that shadow IT needs to be reigned in. \u00a0Centralized handling of cloud operations will save money and ensure more secure solutions. \u00a0Expect IT to be more involved in cloud purchases and with vetting of cloud applications and infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li>Big enterprise software companies like Oracle, SAP, Hewlett Packard, and IBM will struggle. \u00a0Changing their business models from on-premise software to cloud-based applications will be challenging.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div
