KMWorld<\/a> released a detailed analysis of the state of the Knowledge Management market, a market segment that they identify as consisting of
\nportals and portal frameworks; content and document management; navigation, search and retrieval (NSR); and collaboration.<\/p>\n

They found that mid to large sized companies are spending on average $1224 on their employees in 2008. Company spending has been increasing: 66 percent of companies report more dollars being spent on KM in 2008, while only 5 percent are expecting a decrease in spending.<\/p>\n

The biggest growth is being seen in the areas of collaboration, digital asset management (DAM), and the creation of customer- and supplier-
\nfacing portals. When KM customers are asked to rate which of their KM investments are most strategic, Records Management, especially in the
\nUnited States, ranks high.<\/p>\n

KM is seen as an important aid in improving business processes, increasing customer loyalty and satisfaction, and improving overall company agility.<\/p>\n

Interestingly, the biggest dollar purchases in the KM space are being made in support of financial processes, usually in the area of document management, and often the size of the deals are directly proportional to the volume of information being processed and managed. KMWorld concludes that vendors could do more in promoting other aspects of KM and must go further in satisfying companies’ strategic plans.<\/p>\n

The results of the KMWorld survey reconfirms that companies are citing a preference for subscription licensing models over traditional software
\nlicensing and maintenance agreements.<\/p>\n
