Only 6 percent of top Fortune 1000 executives expressed any doubt or discomfort<\/a> with their company’s overall current handling of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM). Those are the results of a survey conducted by Accretive Solutions on behalf of Harris Interactive.
\nThe six percent figure is interesting, because when drilled down, many of the executives admitted concerns, especially related to IT.<\/p>\n

Dirk Hobgood, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Accretive Solutions commented that: “First, many executives are still in need of more education as to what Enterprise Risk Management means and entails, and second, that a surprising number of companies believe themselves to be protected when in fact their exposure to several key, unmitigated risks continues to be very real.”<\/p>\n

Risk Management includes companies worrying about how factors like the declining dollar or increased global competition will affect their business. But IT Security was the area that most executives agreed that they need to make a biggest effort to be vigilent — 39 percent of executives cited it. IT security personnel are in high demand, and some companies are having a hard time to fill key positions.<\/p>\n

While concerns about IT Security run high, worry about regulations like Sarbanes-Oxley are way down. Only 6 percent of executives now worry
\nabout Sarbanes-Oxley accounting issues.<\/p>\n
