{"id":646,"date":"2008-08-18T07:00:03","date_gmt":"2008-08-18T15:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.formtek.com\/blog\/?p=646"},"modified":"2008-08-18T07:00:03","modified_gmt":"2008-08-18T15:00:03","slug":"saas-four-waves-under-the-clouds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/saas-four-waves-under-the-clouds\/","title":{"rendered":"SaaS:  Four Waves Under the Clouds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saugatuck Research <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prweb.com\/releases\/2008\/7\/prweb1088024.htm\">identifies<\/a> four waves of SaaS in their 2008 report on the state of SaaS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Wave I<\/strong> &#8212; isolated single-point solutions<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wave II<\/strong> &#8212; solutions that integrate with on-premise data and processes<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wave III<\/strong> &#8212; inter- and intra-company collaboration and personalized workflows<\/li>\n<li><strong>Wave IV<\/strong> &#8212; melding of IT and business together and to move beyond user and vendor experience<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The waters appear to be a bit choppier than last year&#8217;s report &#8212; Saugatuck envisioned only three waves in their 2007 report (Three Waves of Change: SaaS Beyond the Tipping Point ).<\/p>\n<p>Most companies using SaaS today are somewhere between Wave I and II today.  Saugatuck sees more companies coming around to SaaS adoption.  In their survey many companies expressed a desire to move to an on-demand model and when asked what company they envision as their future SaaS brand of choice, many (51 percent) saw most likely that their future vendor would be a pure-play SaaS vendor, not one of the brand-name traditional vendors of today.<\/p>\n<p>The report also predicts that the growth of Platform as a Service (PaaS) will enable and significantly improve the enterprise-ready capabilities of most SaaS offerings.<\/p>\n<p>Saugatuck also sees the transition of &#8220;Cloud Computing&#8221; into &#8220;Cloud Business&#8221;, a combination of the IT utility concept and business process outsourcing.<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
