Businesses are slowly adopting the cloud. \u00a0Rather than go gung ho forward with an all-cloud strategy though, most businesses are testing the cloud with limited number of applications or infrastructure support. \u00a0During this transitional stage, many companies are adopting a hybrid approach to the cloud.<\/p>\n

A recent IBM report<\/a> found that 45 percent of business workloads are destined to remain on on-premise servers for some time going forward. \u00a0But despite that, 83 percent of what IBM classifies as high-performance have diversified to use both on-premise and cloud computing. \u00a0Among all companies, the number is 78 percent which is almost double the number of companies using the cloud in the same survey taken in 2012. \u00a0Forrester recently ranked IBM as a leader<\/a> in the public cloud space.<\/p>\n

Marie Wieck<\/a>, general manager of cloud integration at IBM, said that<\/a> “enterprises are moving to the cloud, especially hybrid cloud, faster than anyone expected to support their digital transformation, drive business model innovation and fuel growth.\u00a0As clients continue to reap the benefits of integrating their on-premises infrastructure with the cloud, we see them increasing their investments in new workloads on public clouds. Successful clients have integrated plans to place workloads where they fit best, and IBM’s hybrid cloud strategy provides this on-ramp for flexibility and growth.”<\/p>\n

The IBM report cited the usual roadblocks that are keeping the cloud from becoming even a more dominant force more quickly than it is, which include worries about security and compliance risks, cost, and potential disruption from new technologies.<\/p>\n
