Company Line of Businesses routinely\u00a0bypass IT every chance they get.<\/p>\n<p>A recent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.accenture.com\/t20160824T223304__w__\/us-en\/_acnmedia\/Accenture\/Conversion-Assets\/DotCom\/Documents\/Global\/PDF\/Strategy_7\/Accenture-Strategy-TS-IT-is-Dead.pdf#zoom=50\">report by Accenture on the plight of IT <\/a>said that &#8220;IT is no longer seen as the optimal\u00a0organization to quickly achieve business outcomes, nor\u00a0are they seen as the main source of innovation. In fact,\u00a0six in 10 survey respondents claim that IT does not have\u00a0a significant influence on their choice of as-a-service\u00a0provider. Rather than working with IT, many business\u00a0leaders are choosing to work around IT.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Accenture study characterized the current perception problem of IT:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>IT is out of the loop<\/strong> &#8211; 70 percent of businesses only involve IT after an external service is selected<\/li>\n<li><strong>IT Lacks Innovation<\/strong> &#8211; Confidence in IT dropped from 71 percent to 34 percent between 2013 and 2015<\/li>\n<li><strong>IT is slow<\/strong> &#8211; 42 percent say IT takes too long to implement anything<\/li>\n<li><strong>IT lacks skills<\/strong> &#8211; 77 percent say that IT staff lacks &#8220;as-a-service&#8221; skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What to do? \u00a0Accenture says the only option for IT to remain viable is to reinvent itself. \u00a0It needs to become more service-provider-like and to assist the business during external vendor selection. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.accenture.com\/us-en\/insight-it-dead-long-live-it-enterprise-it-reinvent-itself\">The report notes<\/a> that &#8220;in this new role, IT can not only protect the business but also help it achieve greater outcomes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div class=\"lightsocial_element\"><a class=\"lightsocial_a\"
