{"id":6855,"date":"2016-11-07T07:00:31","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T15:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/?p=6855"},"modified":"2016-11-03T19:21:16","modified_gmt":"2016-11-04T03:21:16","slug":"enterprise-content-management-ecm-gartner-ecm-magic-quadrant-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/formtek.com\/blog\/enterprise-content-management-ecm-gartner-ecm-magic-quadrant-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Enterprise Content Management (ECM): Gartner ECM Magic Quadrant 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gartner recently released the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opentext.com\/campaigns\/ecm\/gartnermq2016\">2016 ECM Magic Quadrant<\/a> report. \u00a0Things are moving quickly in this space. \u00a0The report was released at the end of October but cut-off for the products considered was May 2016. \u00a0That means that the report does not include <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.office.com\/2016\/05\/04\/sharepoint-server-2016-your-foundation-for-the-future\/\">Sharepoint 2016<\/a> and also the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.opentext.com\/who-we-are\/press-releases?id=51B5E97A2C384D1DBCD94180192DB53A\">acquisition of Documentum by Open Text.<\/a>\u00a0 Maybe the ECM report needs to be updated every six months to keep more current.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/doc\/reprints?id=1-2Q79LWH&amp;ct=151021&amp;st=sb\">previous years of ECM Magic Quadrant reports<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alfresco.com\/\">Alfresco<\/a> showed up as a Visionary. \u00a0This year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alfresco.com\/\">Alfresco<\/a> is positioned in the\u00a0Challenger quadrant directly next to Microsoft and Lexmark. \u00a0ECM Leaders are IBM, Open Text and Hyland.<\/p>\n<p>Gartner has changed the definition of\u00a0ECM to take on a more service-oriented perspective:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;ECM is a set of services and microservices, embodied either as an integrated product suite or as separate applications that share common APIs and repositories, to exploit diverse content types, and serve multiple constituencies and numerous use cases across an organization.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gartner made\u00a0the following two year predictions. By 2018, expect to see the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Half of enterprises will manage content on hybrid systems (cloud\/on-premise)<\/li>\n<li>More than one-fifth of businesses\u00a0will be managing\u00a0content from multiple organizations<\/li>\n<li>File synchronization and sharing will be a standard built-in ECM function<\/li>\n<li>Half of big-name ECM vendors will re-architect their software to be cloud-based<\/li>\n<li>One-fifth of business content will be machine authored<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"lightsocial_container\"><div
