Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR\/VR) is set poised for rapid growth in 2017. \u00a0The market has already been growing strongly, but as the technology improves and headsets and devices become cheaper, sales are expected to boom.<\/p>\n

Jitesh Ubrani<\/a> senior research analyst for IDC Mobile Device Trackers, said that<\/a> \u201cAR may just be on track to create a shift in computing significant enough to rival the smartphone. In the next 12 months, we\u2019ll see a growing number of hardware vendors enter the space with products that cover the gamut from simple screenless viewers to tethered HMDs to standalone HMDs. The AR\/VR headset market promises to be an exciting space to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

IDC expects that by 2020 sales of AR\/VR headsets will reach 76 million which would be a 108 percent annual growth rate. AR\/VR vendors include\u00a0HTC, Sony, and Oculus.<\/p>\n
